In May 2022, Dulas celebrated four decades of innovation with colleagues, clients and special guests.

Dulas welcomed guests from all over the UK as it celebrated 40 years since its inception as a renewable energy cooperative. Dulas was founded in 1982 by a group of engineers based at the well-known Centre for Alternative Technology in Mid Wales. Since then, Dulas has become an industry leader in solar, wind and hydro systems, responsible for many ‘firsts’, including the development of solar powered vaccine refrigerators that have improved the life chances of thousands of people in developing countries around the world. Dulas is still based in Mid Wales with headquarters in Machynlleth, and now has additional offices in Inverness and Stirling, and a manufacturing facility in West Sussex which exports all over the world.

Managing Director Ruth Chapman commented: “We’re delighted that so many valued clients and contacts came to celebrate with us today. I’m pleased to say that the pioneering Dulas spirit remains alive and well, and we are proud to remain a worker-owned company and have a home in Wales where we began. We continue to grow at what is a crucial turning point for renewables and fully intend on being part of the global effort to end the reliance on fossil fuels by harnessing clean renewable energy sources. Here’s to the next forty years!”

Guests attended from the Department of International Trade, local government and companies such as EDF, RWE, Welsh Water and the National Trust. They were given a tour of some of the pioneering products Dulas has developed and a look at some of the new projects it is currently working on, including a prototype solar powered electric vehicle charger.
