# Soaring to new heights with our tilt-up masts

For over 43 years, Dulas has been at the forefront of wind monitoring in the UK – supplying, installing, and maintaining meteorological masts in some of the most challenging environments. As turbines get taller and the demand for accurate data grows, so too does the need for smarter met mast technology.

The mast is first assembled and laid out safely on the ground. Once bolted together, the instrument booms are attached, preparing the entire structure to be lifted into position using the two gin poles.

Instruments are attached to the booms whilst at ground level. The cables are then secured to the upstand and along the boom.

**A smarter type of mast**

Monopole tubular met masts have long been the go-to in wind measurement, but at 90m the mast has reached the structural limit of its design envelope. Increasingly, developers are turning to tilt-up lattice masts – and for good reason − we can now reach up to 120m!

Tilt-up lattice masts are assembled entirely at ground level, removing the risks of working at height and making installation safer and more efficient, compared to traditional build-up lattice masts. Once in place, they can be climbed and maintained without lowering the structure, while their ability to reach greater heights ensures the quality of wind data needed for today’s large-scale projects.

**International collaboration**

To bring this technology to the UK, Dulas has partnered with the Polish company [Double K](https://double-k.pl/)
, drawing on their lattice tower manufacturing expertise. In the summer of 2025, we installed our first tilt-up lattice mast together with Double K, whilst undertaking advanced technical training to ensure our installations meet the highest possible standards.

**What this means for our clients**

The result is a mast that can be installed more safely and much faster, even in challenging weather conditions, as there is no need to work at height with it being built on the ground. The Double-K mast is fully compliant with IEC 61400-12-1:2017 and MEASNET standards and gives developers a robust, reliable long-term monitoring solution – and the confidence to move projects forward.
