# Solar Options Appraisal, Preliminary Design, Electrical Connection and Client’s Engineer

**Project Overview**

Dulas were originally commissioned to undertake a feasibility study evaluating four potential sites for a 2MW ground mount solar PV project for Cranfield University. Following this success piece of work Dulas were then commissioned by Cranfield University to undertake the design for a 1MW solar farm, and provide technical support to the University during the tender and install phases of the scheme.

**Implementation**

Following detailed discussions with both Cranfield University and Cranfield Airport, a site location was agreed upon and Dulas prepared an initial design for the scheme. Upon completing the environmental assessment process, this design was refined and a set of planning drawings prepared. Work also included management of glint and glare studies for residential properties and the airport, and the production of design drawings for the planning application.

No material concerns with the development were submitted to the determining authority and it was subsequently awarded planning permission.

Dulas also worked with the University to prepare the technical specification for the EPC contract tender package. Once the tender submission period was concluded, assistance was provided to the University to score the tender submission documents and interview the shortlisted EPC contractors.  
 Once the EPC contractor was selected and commissioned, Dulas reviewed the pre-construction documentation, and visited the site pre-start, during construction and on completion. Site visit reports were submitted to the University following each site visit, highlighting if there were any issues which needed to be addressed.

**Outcomes and Benefits**

Cranfield University were able to rely on the technical expertise of Dulas to ensure that the consented project was buildable and met the requirements of the University and Airport.
