Project Overview

Dulas was contracted by the Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH) in Ethiopia to supply, install and commission 134 of the Dulas VC200SDD systems across 4 states in Ethiopia, East Africa.

Their project required a reliable solar powered vaccine refrigerator with the ability to store large quantities of vaccines and the VC200SDD was the perfect choice for their regional health centres.

With a capacity of 132 Litres the VC200SDD refrigerator is the largest model in the Dulas range of Solar Direct Drive (SDD) vaccine refrigerators. It utilises our optimised solar technology to off er the perfect balance of array size and autonomy, delivering exceptional reliability whatever the weather.

At Dulas, we like to work with in-country partners  with strong technical capabilities combined with excellent customer focus.

Implementation

Working with our local partners Beta Engineering, the solar systems were installed in the Somali, Afar, Benishangul, Gembella Regions of Ethiopia.

4 teams were deployed, 1 for each region. Some of the locations were very remote and had difficult access; the teams also had to work around the rainy season which affected the infrastructure networks in the area. During the installation programme there were also some security issues so the team was temporarily removed and then redeployed when conflict had ended.

By using our local partners Beta Engineering we were able to overcome any logistical issues due to their local knowledge and expertise. Following an extensive installation programme the 134 refrigerators were successfully installed at the designated health centres.
