Glenmore Control Panel Refurbishment

Glenmore Control Panel Refurbishment

Project Overview

The Glenmore hydro scheme was originally installed in 1936 and retained a large proportion of the original equipment, including the refurbished Gilkes turbine. It is rated at 100kW. The scheme had had some remedial works done over the years but had experienced serious issues with the generator and required a solution to address these issues and modernise the plant, including control panel refurbishment.

Implementation

Asbestos survey, upgrade of building services (lights, sockets and consumer unit), design, build and installation of new control cabinet, remote SCADA system, including updgrades to enable better monitoring of generator, and a new power cabinet.

Plant recommissoned and further recommendations including safe downstream transport for brown trout. In addition to replacing both intakes, Dulas’ refurbishment works includes replacing the entire pipeline air valves and installing suitable free venting air valves. These improvements ensure that the pipeline operates at full capacity and is protected against catastrophic failure.
